Santorini

We sailed away from rural Naxos and docked in what seemed like a very different country! Greece is so diverse and each island has its own personality! The views we were introduced to here were jaw-dropping. Let me show you a bit of what we were so fortunate to experience…

Caldera (crater) view from our suite!

We stayed at the Olia Villas & Suites in Imerovigli, which is right on the western edge and center of the crescent-shaped island. Once a large, round island, it was shaped as it is now by a volcanic eruption that took place in the 16th century BC. The volcano is still active (pause for thought…) and made this a unique and very picturesque place to visit. BTW, that isn’t snow on the top of the cliff. Those are buildings.

Night view

Morning fog? No, that’s humidity! It rolled in every morning and was gone by noon. If you live on the eastern side of the US, you’ll be familiar with that. Being from California, it was a novelty to me!

Santorini was so picturesque that we couldn’t stop snapping the photos! There were a lot of fascinating things to see there. More of that in a future post.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Beautiful Santoriri. Did you have a camera or iPhone?

  3. I remember having kids make sunprints. It was like magic. You would certinly have to be in great shape to get anywhere on this island.

    • Yes, being in good shape is definitely helpful! It was particularly challenging when the winds picked up and we had stairs without hand rails. There were a few times I had to be very careful to plant my feet firmly and balance myself. That being said, there were places to stay that were more inland and much less challenging 🙂
