Naxos

Although Naxos was one of our shorter stops through the Greek isles, we packed in a lot of activity! Our hotel was one of the prettiest – Kavos Naxos Boutique Hotel (I highly recommend). We were shown a traditional mountain village called Chalki, drove up to the top of the mountain for spectacular views, visited a local farm where we had a cooking lesson and spent the afternoon visiting with the owners and enjoying their property. We watched a potter throw a clay pot on his wheel, viewed the marble quarry, and visited their olive oil museum. Here are a few highlights of our first day on the island ~

Kavos Naxos Boutique Hotel was like a little village in itself! Beautiful grounds and individual villas with patios and water views. I could have stayed there for the rest of my trip!

We were picked up that first afternoon and took a drive into the center of the island and made a few stops along the way.

Panoramic view from the top

Damalas Pottery

Marble Quarry

Marble is such a plentiful resource on Naxos that all of the village streets and pathways are made with it. Caution: Slippery When Wet!

Did I mention that the villages are built right into the side of the mountain? Everything is vertical! Donkeys are still a mode of transportation. In addition to very small cars! 🙂

And yes, the sky really is that blue!

Have a beautiful day!
