Get Well Card for Pals’ January Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Pals monthly blog hop. We’re so glad you’re here! January is all about making “Art from the Heart,” featuring projects for Valentines Day, Thinking of You, Get Well, or Sympathy. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

Yes, today’s blog hop theme is “From the Heart” and I’ve decided to show a Get Well card that I’ve made and share a little heart-felt story with it.

For my card, I used one of the new sets in the 2019 Occasions Catalog called Wonderful Romance. This happens to be the set that I won during a Prize Patrol at On Stage in Orlando. Pretty lucky, I am!

First, I heat embossed the large image from the stamp set by stamping it with Versamark Ink onto a panel of Crumb Cake cardstock. I sprinkled it generously with white Embossing Powder, then heat set it with my Heat Tool.

Than I colored it with my Watercolor Pencils, using a technique that I recently learned from Canadian Demonstrator, Susanne Netz. For the leaves I used Granny Apple Green, Garden Green, and White pencils. For the flowers, I used Calypso Coral and White. With this technique, start at the bottom of the leaf image with the darker color, color about 1/2 way up, then color above that with white, slightly blending the two together and leaving it look a little veiny and imperfect (just right for this colorer!) The large leaves were a bit too rustic for me, so I smoothed them out ever so slightly with a Blender Pen. For the flowers, start in the center of the flower and color out to the edges.

A close up photo is definitely humbling. I can see every mistake when I look at the photo, but in real life the mistakes are barely discernable! Whew!

Mistakes ignored, this shot gives you a pretty good idea of how to fill in the color on each leaf and flower. I’ve added a little bit of sparkle in the center of the three flowers, using a non-SU product called Stickles.

My layers are assembled like this:

  • Thick Whisper White, 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″, side fold
  • Garden Impressions coral DSP, 5″ x 3-3/4″, glued to white base
  • Crumb Cake with stamped image, 4-3/8″ x 3-1/8″, glued to
  • Calypso Coral, 4-1/2″ x 3-1/4″, glued to
  • Whisper White, 4-5/8″ x 3-3/8″, adhered to DSP panel with Dimensionals

Before adhering the top three layers to the DSP, I wrapped a double strand of Linen Thread around them and tied a bow. The sentiment I used is from Itty Bitty Greetings, stamped in Crumb Cake onto thick Whisper White. The strip measures about 2″ x 5/8″.

Inside you find that heart ~

And here’s the story I promised you…

I volunteer teach a group of homeschooled students at Community Bible Study. One of the ladies who volunteers to lead the adult women in the study just had her 93rd birthday! 93!!! And still leading a group of women! She has been such a beautiful inspiration. But lately she has been in a lot of pain and is finding it hard to leave the house, so I’ve been sending her cards every few days, hoping to cheer her up. This card will go to her after I’ve finished this post. She always calls me to tell me how much she appreciates my cards. Her name is Caroline, and she is a dear, sweet lady. If you would lift her up in your prayers, I know she would treasure that! Thank you!

More inspiration awaits! Use the Blog Hop Line-up below to visit the rest of this month’s Design Team. My fellow Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created! Don’t forget to show us some love by commenting on our creations. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, February 13, 2019 when our Hoppin’ Pals share their “It’s Time to Sale-A-Brate” projects. Don’t miss the fun!
