Stenciling for CASEing Coast to Coast

It’s the third Wednesday of the month and that means it’s time for CASEing Coast to Coast! If you are new to my blog, this is the day when Rosanne Mulhern and I take turns Copying And Selectively Editing each other’s cards, or “CASEing” each other. I live on the West Coast, California. Rosanne is on the East Coast, Pennsylvania. This month we have decided on a technique: stenciling!

Stenciling is so much fun! And there are loads of great stencils out there to choose from. I wanted to make a birthday card, so I picked a stencil from Paper Rose called Lots and Lots of Balloons. Here is my card ~

I used Stampin’ Up! Blending Brushes and Pool Party ink to stencil my balloons onto Basic White Cardstock, 4-7/8″x 3-5/8″. Don’t you love it when you “peel and reveal”?

Layer it up!

Glue the stenciled panel to a slightly larger piece of Coastal Cabana Cardstock, 5″x 3-3/4″. With Dimensionals on the back of this panel, adhere it to the card base of Bermuda Bay Cardstock, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″.

Embossing on Vellum tips:

I decided to use Happiest of Birthdays for my sentiment. This big, bold stamp fills up the space nicely. But no way did I want to cover up my stenciled balloons, so I stamped it on Vellum. This is best done with a Stamparatus or any stamp positioning tool. I started with Bermuda Bay ink, stamped twice, then let it dry while I prepared dinner. (Ink on Vellum takes a while to dry!) Then I covered the area with my anti-static powder bag (i.e. our old Embossing Buddy) and re-stamped it with Versamark Ink. Clear Emboss Powder over the Bermuda Bay plus heat setting it makes it super shiny. To finish it off, I die cut the Vellum with a scalloped die from Stitched So Sweetly dies. Tiny dots of liquid glue on the back where the stamped areas are wider provide invisible adhesion to the card front.

Finishing Touches

Three aqua sequins from Artistry Blooms give a little more tone-on-tone shine.

Then on the inside…

I have stamped another sentiment from Happiest of Birthdays, punched two balloons with the (retired) Balloon Bouquet Punch and attached Basic Gray strings from Hippo & Friends Dies. The balloons are “floating” on Dimensionals!
