Impossible!

When I saw this Impossible Card by Linda Heller, I had to try it right away! I’m always intrigued by different folds and this one has an interesting “twist” to it!!! (literally!)

It’s made with one piece of cardstock. Doesn’t that seem impossible? It’s actually incredibly easy, and the fact that it stands up on your desk makes it a fun one to give and receive.

Start with a piece of cardstock. I chose Crumb Cake for this one. Cut to 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″. Score down the middle in portrait position at 2-1/8″. Turn it to landscape position and cut on one side at 1″ to the score line, then at 4-1/4″ to the score line. Turn it 180 degrees and cut in the middle at 2-3/4″ to the score line. Here’s a template:

And here is the twist:

Lift the center top piece, then twist the lower right piece down and back, bringing the right top piece forward. It’s so much easier to do than to describe, honest!

To decorate you will want DSP in the following sizes: 2″ x 2-5/8″, 2″ x 1-1/8″, and 2″ x 2-7/8″. I used the new Share What You Love DSP for these three pieces. I also glued a 3″ x 2″ piece of Old Olive Color Theory DSP on the piece that sticks up, behind the Adirondack Chairs (Wood Textures DSP), and a piece of Whisper White for my message that measures 2″ x 2-5/8″.

Here is a view from the top:

The bridge is important to give the card stability. This can be whatever size you want, but because I wanted to put the “sunshine” die cut word along there, I cut the Crumb Cake to 4-1/2″ x 1-1/4″ and Whisper White 4-1/2″ x 1″. The word die is from Sunshine Wishes Thinlits and I used Berry Burst cardstock and ribbon.

“Sending” is from Sunshine Sayings stamp set. The “Happy Birthday” is from Happy Birthday Gorgeous.

I punched four balloons from DSP using my Balloon Bouquet Punch and attached them back to back with a strip of black cardstock between them. The balloons can fold down to mail the card, but may need a little resuscitation to get them to stand back up again. I’m not sure I would do them again, but it is cute!

The middle flap with the chairs lays down to mail. It just becomes one flat 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of cardstock that will easily fit into a Medium Envelope.

Have fun decorating this! There are so many ways you could do it. In fact, I’m sure there will be many posts with ideas online soon, if you need more inspiration. I say, give it a try! I would like to see yours online next time I go to look!
