Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Top o’ the mornin’ to ye! I could not let St. Patrick’s Day go by without creating a fun card for my grandsons! This is a “search and rescue” card (I’ll explain in a minute!)

The idea was born when I saw this banner from Festive Friday Challenge #29

What could be “greener” than St. Patrick’s Day?

First, a rainbow. All that’s missing is the pot of gold! I guess it’s at the other end! So Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Pineapple Punch, Call Me Clover, Blueberry Bushel, and Gorgeous Grape strips make up my bright rainbow.

Now Larry the Leprechaun is where the “search and rescue” comes in. First I had to search for certain shapes and rescue framelits that have been collecting dust in my cabinet! The face was easy – a Layered Circle Framelit of Petal Pink. The Pumpkin Pie beard and Call Me Clover hat come from Coffee Cups Framelits. Unfortunately the nose is a very old punch whose name I don’t even remember! The eyes are tiny circles found in the retired Tiny Treat Bag Framelits. Next the shamrock, which is in Amazing Life, stamped and fussy cut. The hat band is simply a tiny strip and square cut with my trimmer. Those clouds and hair are from My Favorite Things®. Crazy, but the hair is actually a grass die turned upside down. Works for me!

Last I stamped the inside with Teeny Tiny Wishes (retired) and another shamrock in Call Me Clover. Isn’t that the best St. Patty’s Day color?!

Wishing you all a lucky-good weekend! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Tell me, do kindergarten teachers still turn the chairs upside down and put green footprints across the room with a Pot of Gold (chocolate coins) at the end of a scavenger hunt? The day was always a fun one, but too exciting for any real learning to take place! What were we thinking?! hahaha! It was FUN! See you next week ~

Such a cute and clever card, Karen! Your punch art leprechaun is perfect! Thank you for sharing with Festive Friday!

  2. Aww so cute Karen! I could have put a birthday hat on him and made one for Jordan’s St. Pat’s birthday but I came up with something!

So cute! Love the idea of Search and Rescue! It all came together really well. I never heard about the searching for the gold in kindergarten. My kindergarten teacher made it all about me since it was also my birthday. She was the dearest little old lady and we went to the same church. Both her brother and Miss Hunger adored me. All kids were to were to wear something green and we also made shamrocks to pin on us. Then, she made green kool aid or something green drink and we waited for my mom to bring the cupcakes with green frosting on them. So, it was like a one big birthday party. No presents involved which made it easy on the kids who couldn’t afford any but they loved being part of the party. Plus, it signaled spring was on it’s way (hopefully).

    • You’re a St. Patty’s Day birthday girl?! Happy almost birthday, Chris! I remember turning 7-Up green with food coloring and telling the kids that the leprechauns made it! They loved it even if they didn’t quite believe me!!! Another fun thing was making Pistachio Pudding with them — green!

    Clever use of shapes. Cute.

  5. What a bright and fun card, Karen! Great job finding just the right pieces to create this cute little fella!

    • Thanks Rosanne! I was kind of wishing I’d gotten that new cupcake set just for his beard since it looks like hair, but no -!

I had to laugh as I didn’t particularly like that cupcake set – not sure why. But, I wanted the “frosting” for beards for next year. Well, I received it as a birthday present! So, now I have no excuse now to make them. I do like the little “bowler” type of hat you made and may have to play around with different hats.

  6. Search and Rescue . . . what a great thought. Looks like you were 100% successful in all areas. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you too.
    Have a blessed day!
    🙂
