July CASEing Coast to Coast

Welcome to our July CASEing Coast to Coast post! If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that once a month Rosanne Mulhern and I take turns designing a card that the other person CASEs. Rosanne lives in PA and I’m in CA, and through Stampin’ Up! we have become good friends. I love that this craft has brought people together that would never have the opportunity to meet otherwise!

This month it is Rosanne’s turn to design and my turn to CASE her. I love her card this month, and I fought the temptation to copy her outright! But with a little thought, I was able to CASE parts of her card and make some parts my own. Here is her card.

Isn’t it beautiful? You can read more about it on her blog at www.heartfeltstamping.com.

Here is my version, or maybe it’s a diversion! Anyway, I took the basic layout of her card.

Materials & Measurements:
  • Thick Whisper White Cardstock at 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″
  • Flowers For Every Season 6″x 6″ DSP at 4-1/4″x 3-1/4″
  • Whisper White Cardstock at 5-1/4″x 4″ for frame, 4-1/2″x 4″ for magnolia, scrap for butterfly
  • Basic Black Cardstock at 2-5/8″x 3/8″ for sentiment

I couldn’t decide on the butterfly, so I took some photos with and some without. What do you think? Yes or no to the butterfly?

Directions:
  • Glue the Flowers For Every Season DSP to the front of the card base, centering in all directions.
  • Cut a Stitched Rectangle in the center of the 5-1/4″x 4″ piece of Whisper White. Back it with a piece of Fun Foam, cut to match. Glue it over the top of the DSP, leaving a 1/8″ border on all four sides.
  • Stamp the large magnolia image from Good Morning Magnolia with Memento Black Ink. Crop with matching Magnolia Memories Die.
  • Cut a 1-1/2″ circle of Fun Foam to glue under the center of the flower. This will ensure an even level with the frame. Tuck some Dimensionals under the leaves where they need support and glue the magnolia to the card front, matching the left sides.
  • Heat emboss the greeting from Blossoms In Bloom Stamp Set, white on Basic Black Cardstock, trim to size and glue to the front, near the bottom right.
  • Stamp, color, cut, and glue a small butterfly if you like! This butterfly image comes from Beauty Abounds. I stamped it with Memento Black ink, colored it with Poppy Parade Blends, and cropped it out with Butterfly Beauty Dies.

I like to match the envelopes with either DSP, stamps, or embossing folders. This time I added some of the striped DSP and a 1/4″ strip of Black Cardstock to tie in with the card and to CASE Rosanne’s envelope.

I hope you’ve enjoyed our CASEing Coast to Coast this month! We love doing it and hope you benefit from seeing how we take someone else’s card elements and use them in new ways to make our own design.

Give it a try! And get into the stamping habit!
