Christmas in July, Using Scraps!

Her chosen theme this month is Christmas in July, using scraps! How fun! I have lots of scraps, as I imagine most of you do. Let’s take a look at her project first, then I’ll show you what I made.

Rosanne’s card:

And here’s my scrap-y project:

I gave a Christmas in July class this month in my home, so I had oodles of “A Stitched Season” DSP scraps left. It was perfect for this theme/card, as I used left-overs for every bit of my card!

Before I go into the mechanics of this card, let me show you the bundle that I used ~

Stitched Stocking Bundle #168231:

At first, I was a little intimidated by this set. But once I started playing with it, I realized it’s not as difficult as I’d thought.

Putting it together:

To make the “quilted” portion of the stocking I started by die cutting the inside stocking shape with Basic White Cardstock to use as a template. Then I cut several 1-1/4″ squares and glued them to the squares in the template. When they were all in place, I ran it through my die-cutting machine again with that stocking die, and it added all the cool stitching to each square. The extra parts of the squares cut and fell off, leaving me with what you see here.

I then glued it to the larger Real Red stocking that I die cut, paper-pieced the top portion of the stocking and added the green topper on it with holly and berries.

All of the Designer Series Paper is from A Stitched Season DSP. The bundle is called Stitched Stocking. I used the Forever Plaid 3D Embossing Folder and green Low Profile Dots. I love this bright and cheerful paper for all kinds of Christmas projects. And I plan to use the quilting portion of the bundle to make non-Christmas projects as well! Now we’ll leave Christmas for the awhile and focus on the current season! It is fun to get a jump-start on our holiday cards, but there are many other things that happen between now and December.
