Wood Carving for Masculine Monday

Makes a dramatic entrance, doesn’t it? My late Father-in-Law was a master at wood carving and furniture making. His works are truly art! We would go to his house and marvel at his stunning craftsmanship.

It was his woodworking that inspired my card design today. And because of Grandpa John, wood and masculine go together in my mind!

I’ve included three main elements to this card: 1) Tasteful Backgrounds Dies, 2) Rooted in Nature Stamp Set & Dies, and 3) Pressed Petals Designer Series Paper.

Backgrounds Dies

The Tasteful Backgrounds Dies are fun. There are three dies and they just cut out designs in your paper to created these interesting “wood carvings.” I’ve cut two sheets with this die, the Pressed Petals DSP and an Early Espresso layer behind it, staggered for visual interest. They sit on a So Saffron card base. Here is a picture and link to these dies:

Separate Your Sentiments for a new look

I used the sentiment stamp and two of the leaves from Rooted in Nature. The three part sentiment comes in one stamp but are nicely spaced and easy to cut apart once you’ve stamped it. They are arranged on top of a Stitched Rectangle Die to which I altered the size and shape.

Design Tip:

Cut a larger rectangle than you want. Re-cut it to the size you need by placing the die back over the original cut, off-setting it to cut a smaller rectangle. It’s easier than it sounds! You can nestle the die into the original grooves quite nicely.

The inside has the Stitched Rectangle look to it and another left over leaf from the front.

Don’t Forget the Envelopes

When I was trying to decide which leaves and colors I wanted for the front, I ended up making more than I needed. The cast-offs became design elements, not only on the inside, but also on the back flap of the envelope. It’s fun to give your recipient a sneak peek at what’s to come by giving them just a taste on the envelope!
