Hi there, I’m back with a sketch challenge for Thursday’s Create With Connie & Mary. Today I’ve pulled out the Sweet Citrus Bundle and tried to re-create the beautiful Cara Cara Oranges that we grow in our back yard!
First the sketch ~
In keeping with the sketch, I made a square card measuring 5″x 5″. This one was fun!
Here’s my card ~
Cropping Measurements ~
- Poppy Parade Cardstock base, 10″x 5″, folded at 5″
- Basic White layer, 4-1/4″x 4-1/4″
- Poppy Parade and Pumpkin Pie strips, 1/2″x 4″
- Sentiment label from All That Dies with Basic White, 2-1/2″x 1-1/2″, layered over Poppy Parade, 2-5/8″x 1-5/8″
- Basic White scraps for stamping oranges and leaves
Put it together ~
- I started out by making my own background paper by randomly stamping the trio flower stamp from Sweet Citrus using Pumpkin Pie with the centers in Poppy Parade.
- Next I glued down the two 1/2″ strips.
- Then I stamped the sentiment from Sweet Citrus with Poppy Parade ink onto Basic White Cardstock and cropped it out with a die from All That Dies. I layered that over a slightly larger piece of Poppy Parade and put Dimensionals on the back.
- To create the citrus, I stamped the “meat” of the oranges with Poppy Parade, the rinds with Pumpkin Pie and the leaves with Garden Green. I cut and embossed the oranges with the Sweet Citrus Hybrid Dies & Embossing Folder. I glued those in place, then cropped the leaves out, tucked and glued them into place.
- The three Iridescent Rhinestones add a little bling.
Unless you are familiar with Cara Caras, you probably wonder why I chose Poppy Parade for the inside of the oranges! These delicious oranges have a dark orange-red meat, so the color is nearly spot on! Take a look ~
Aren’t they pretty? And super sweet! The citrus is one of our favorite things about living in California! Now be sure to click HERE and pop over to Create With Connie & Mary to see what the rest of the team created from this sketch.
Sending you a big squeeze ~

Really looks like cara caras. Time to peel one now!
Pretty card ,,,,, Oh yes Cara Cara oranges are wonderful. The only
oranges I buy. I live in FL and they don’t grow them here. I’ve been
buying them for over 5 yrs. You used to be able to only get them at
Christmastime Walmart has them all the time.
