I’ve been working my way through the 2019-20 Annual Catalog, taking the Designer Series Papers and showcasing each one in a new way before they retire on June 2nd. Today I want to put the spotlight on Magnolia Lane. This is an old technique that I’ve revisited, and I thought Magnolia Lane would work well with it.
The Technique
I’ve heard it called “spotlighting layers.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen it done with circles before, so it’s kind of a new spin on an old technique! To do this, I started with one piece of Magnolia Lane DSP, sized 5-1/4″x 4″. Then I die-cut a hole right in the middle of the paper. After that, I die-cut a smaller hole in the middle of the newly cut circle. I mounted the circles on Mossy Meadow Cardstock that was cut in circles 1/4″ larger than the DSP circles. Those were adhered to the card with Dimensionals. The trick is to line the circles up with the pattern on the card, so it looks like one continuous image. It also helps to pick a print that has fairly large images that are easy to line up!
The Layering
Here are two photos that show you a close up of the pattern.
I picked a simple sentiment from Good Morning Magnolia that would not compete with the pattern-matching, then added some Champagne Rhinestones and a small knotted bit of Petal Pink Metallic-Edged Ribbon.
This is a great message for our current situation. We need to find things to enjoy every day, whether it be the beauty in nature, or the extra time we have to enjoy with our families. Or crafts! I wish you all well and hope you can find many ways to enjoy today!

How pretty! I used to do this technique using stamps and ink but I think this is much easier! I’m going to give this a try, Karen. Thanks for sharing.
Right! Triple-time stamping! That’s fun, too, but yes this is much faster with a similar result. Thank you!
