I’ve paired On the Horizon with Sailing Home today to make this card that I’m calling Sailing On the Horizon.
Have I mentioned how brilliant I think this paper is? First of all, I love watercolor art. This DSP is all that, done in such a way that each sheet is left up for individual interpretation. Brilliant! Here is the full pack ~
In December, I made this card, turning a wintery scene into a Christmas card.
Today I used this piece to create a warm sunny sailing day~
Card Details & Tips
- Thick Basic White Cardstock base, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″
- Misty Moonlight Cardstock, 5-1/2″x 4-1/4″, and embossed with Tasteful Textiles embossing folder
- Blackberry Bliss Cardstock layer, 4-1/2″x 3-1/4″
- New Horizons DSP, 4-1/4″x 3″
- Vellum Cardstock
- On the Horizon Stamp Set
- Sailing Home Stamp Set + Dies
- Misty Moonlight Stamp Pad
- Light Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends
Step x Step
- To start, cut the DSP in half, vertically, so you have two 3″x 6″ pieces. From the piece on the left, trim off the bottom 1-3/4″ to end up with a piece measuring 3″x 4-1/4″. Glue it to the Blackberry Bliss layer.
- Stamp the birds from On the Horizon Stamp Set with Misty Moonlight ink in the sky area. Then stamp “Breathe” from the same set in the lower right corner.
- Stamp the smaller sailboat from Sailing Home onto the Vellum piece with Misty Moonlight. Let dry (I helped it along with my Heat Tool on low). When it’s dry, turn it over and give the body of the boat a quick coloring with the Light Night of Navy Blend. Leave everything else uncolored. Cut the boat out with scissors or use the coordinating die.
- Adhere the sailboat to the card front using two Mini Glue Dots, placed under the body of the boat.
- To make the card base: Cut and fold a half sheet of Thick Basic White Cardstock. Cut a 5-1/2″x 4-1/4″ piece of Misty Moonlight and run it through your Cut & Emboss Machine with the Tasteful Textiles embossing folder. Glue this to the front of the white card base.
(Another Tip):
Use your Stampin’ Trimmer to get the blue cardstock over the white card base perfectly with no white showing. Place the white card base into the lower left corner of the Trimmer. There are perpendicular ledges that you can butt the card right up against. Apply liquid glue to the blue layer, then nestle it into the corner over the white base. Perfectly aligned!
- Glue the art piece to the front of the card, centering so there are 1/2″ borders on all sides.
- Stamp the inside. I used full strength Misty Moonlight for the sentiment, then stamped off twice for the birds to give a third generation light stamping.
Here’s a close up of the sail boat. I love the look of stamping it on Vellum and creating a soft, almost dream-like image that lets the pretty background show through.
