Rolling Waves

It’s time for a new Tic Tac Toe Challenge! I really enjoy designing around three elements that they have determined for their board. Today I’ve picked the vertical left row with Sparkle/Beach/Border, and used my Rolling Waves bundle.

I’ve been watching videos from other demonstrators to see how they put these wave elements together on their cards. I tried a couple and then took off on my own. It’s a process!

Part of the challenge was to get sparkle into the design. I wanted more than the Glimmer Paper on the umbrella, so I sparkled up the foam on the waves. To do this, I blotted the Basic White die cut piece with Versamark Ink and sprinkled Holographic Embossing Powder that has sparkle in it, then heat set it. Here’s a close up to show you:

The starfish are also shiny, cut from a Scenic Coast DSP scrap that has an iridescent shine.

Now that I feel I have a handle on the wave layers, I’m looking forward to making more! Maybe for a class? We’ll see!

Start from the top to create:

• Balmy Blue Cardstock, 5″x 3-3/4″
  • Stamp 2 or 3 times on the top for water, using Balmy Blue ink and the large stamp in Rolling Waves Stamp Set.
• Crumb Cake Cardstock, 3-3/4″ wide x 4″ tall. Crop at an angle with the edge die in Rolling Waves Dies. The angle will match your waves placement.
  • Using the same large stamp, stamp several times using Crumb Cake ink for sand. Then go over that with more Crumb Cake ink and the small dotted stamp. Both the sand and the water are a layering process. You just stamp until you like the look!
• Stamp “Relax and Enjoy” from Splash & Relax Stamp Set in Night of Navy ink.
• Overlapping the sand a bit, glue the large Balmy Blue wave die at the same angle as the sand edge.
• Glue the Basic White foam over the Balmy Blue piece. I used a Holographic Embossing Powder that I’ve had for a long time (non-SU) but you could achieve the sparkle with glitter glue or Wink of Stella!
• Turn the whole thing over and trim off the excess from the sides.

Add it to the base pieces:

• Glue this to Basic White Cardstock, 5-1/8″x 3-7/8″ and a Balmy Blue Cardstock base, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, folded at 4-1/4.”

Embellish:

• The umbrella is from Rolling Waves Dies. I glued Bubble Bath Cardstock and some old Berry Burst Glimmer Paper onto Basic White. A Berry Burst Dreamy Flower tops the umbrella and it is adhered to the card with Dimensionals.
• Starfish from the same bundle were cropped from Scenic Coast DSP scraps.
• The last addition of sparkle comes from Sunset Sparkle Sequins.

Honestly, this card and others like it are the kind you want to make when you have time to “play.” You might not get it just right the first time, but it’s fun to practice and play. No two will look exactly alike – that’s the artistic touch on each card. Get in and get inky! And have fun!
