We live on a street called Calypte Lane. Calypte is the genus name for hummingbird. And we get quite a few hungry little hummingbirds hovering at our bird feeder in the front yard. I love these little “helicopter” birds. They come in many different colors. The one I’ve colored for today’s card is modeled after one from the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. I just loved its bright blue and green color palette.
This is a new stamp set, coming out in the 2019 Occasions Catalog on Jan. 3rd. It will be available in a bundle with coordinating framelits dies for 10% savings as well. Humming Along has fun coloring opportunities with the bird and a flower that resembles a hibiscus. I like the sentiments in this a lot!
It is also one of the new Cling Stamps. I had to see these things in action to believe how great they are. They stick to your acrylic block so well that it takes a crowbar to get them off, lol! Not really – but they are REALLY sticky!
I took the idea for my layout from Dawn Griffith’s card sketch:
I used a Whisper White thick card stock base, layered it with Night of Navy, then added a layer of Frosted Floral Specialty Designer Series Paper. Over that and to the left I glued a 1-1/2″ x 5″ piece of Shaded Spruce. My top, center piece of Whisper White measures 2-5/8″ x 3-3/8″ (determined by the size of the hummingbird) and I added a skinny layer of Gorgeous Grape behind it.
For the sentiment, I stamped in Night of Navy and cropped it out with a Layered Circle scalloped Framelit Die. I don’t often sponge anymore (remember when that was the rage?) but the layering circle was too big and I felt it needed some color differentiation in front of the white rectangle. That was my solution! I also gave the bird’s belly and head a good coverage of Wink of Stella, although it doesn’t pick up in the photo. He’s a sparkly little fellow!
I hope you like my Calypte card! Oops, I almost forgot to mention that I colored him with Blends, but maybe you could tell…I used Call Me Clover, Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, and a little Light Basic Black. The beak is Pumpkin Pie.
Have a wonderful weekend. Christmas is almost here! I have family arriving in town this weekend. IF I don’t get a card posted on Monday, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Enjoy every bit of it!

What a stunning card, Karen!
Thank you, Mary Lou!
Beautiful, Karen! I love your choice of DSP and colors for your sweet hummingbird!
Thanks so much, Su! He was fun to color!
Just Beautiful. From the picture, I to like the sentiments. This set is on my wish list.
It’s a good one, thanks!
Very pretty Karen!
Thanks, Beth!
How appropriate to use this image on your card. I wondered what your street name meant. We only have a couple hummingbirds that visit the flowers but we have lots of finches and other colorful birds. I kinda think of the finches as hummingbird want to be! Your DSP looks great with your wonderful coloring. Love this card! It is funny how sponging was so the rage but not so much now. Happy holidays to you and your family!
Oh Karen, I love the colors! Great card.
