Fun With Black and White

I had a little fun with black and white today! Have you ever woven paper on a card? I remember teaching my kindergartners to weave placemats for Thanksgiving – oh, so many years ago! This was like that…under, over, under, over…

The paper I used is Beautifully Penned Designer Series Paper, one of the free gift choices in our current Sale-a-bration Brochure. I’m so happy they are offering DSP. You get 12 sheets of 12″x 12″ for free with a $50 purchase from the Annual or Mini Catalog.

The Process

I took each of the four designs and cut strips varying from 1/4″ – 3/4.”  Then I flipped half of them over to use the back side, which gave me 8 designs to play with. I honestly didn’t pay attention to the prints (very unlike me!). But I did try to vary the widths as I wove them.

After the weaving was done, I turned the whole thing over, dotted glue all over the back, then pressed my Basic Black card base over the strips. When I turned it over, I realized that the designs were upside down from the way I intended 🙁 but oh well, it still worked!

After it was dry, I took it to my guillotine paper trimmer and chopped off the overhang on all four sides. Now what? Hmmm…

Something See-Through

I didn’t want to cover up all that pretty weaving, so I went for Vellum. It got totally lost over the busyness of the strips, so I created a frame using two dies from Hippo & Friends. Once I glued that over the Vellum, I heat embossed the sentiment from Happiest of Birthdays. Then I adhered the frame with mini Black Dimensionals and added three Matte Black Dots.

Some of you may be thinking it’s just too…black and white.  OK, I have an alternate addition for you ~ a little pop of pink!

It does brighten it up a bit! But I’m not gluing it down until I decide who to send it to!
