This card was pure “play!” I saw Julie Davison demonstrate the reverse masking technique and I had to give it a try. So I pulled out Driving By, a free Sale-a-bration stamp set, and turned the van into a hippie bus!
If you were a teenager in the late 60’s/early 70’s like I was, perhaps you had a hippie bus! Lol! This was too much fun.
Reverse Masking
Not familiar with the reserve masking technique? You stamp the image you want on a piece of copy paper, cut out the part you want to stamp additional images (flowers) onto, then lay the paper with the hole over the same stamped image on cardstock. The copy paper covers everything you don’t want ink on, so it’s reverse masking. Here’s a picture to help you get the idea ~
This is stamped on copy paper. I cut a straight line to the image on one side, then cut out the bus. When I then lay it over my stamped image on the card front, it only exposed the parts I wanted flowers on.
After stamping the flowers, I removed the mask and colored the wheels, bumpers, and windows with Blends. Then IÂ finished it off by stamping the scene around it. I actually used the part of the copy paper bus to mask the colored bus so I could stamp the palm trees “behind” it. So I had a mask and a reverse mask.
This is the copy paper mask of the bus placed back in the reverse mask hole. Those brown lines are the palm tree trunks that I wanted to have behind the bus. Thoroughly confused? I hope not! Like I said, this was pure play. I have no idea who I’ll send this card to, but I’m sure someone will come to mind! 🙂
