CASEing Coast to Coast: Valentines!

Welcome! This is our first CASEing Coast to Coast for the new year, 2021! I’m Karen in California and I’ll be CASEing Rosanne from Pennsylvania this month. We take turns Copying And Selectively Editing each other’s designs, and this month we are adding a thematic topic: Valentines! It’s CASEing Coast to Coast: Valentines!

First, here is Rosanne’s beautiful Valentine creation. You can read about her card by clicking HERE.

I love the non-traditional color palette for her Valentine! And the slimline size is perfect with her trio of die-cut hearts. I thought I would CASE her use of the Boho Indigo Designer Series Paper and turn it to a vertical orientation. Here is what I came up with…

Like Rosanne, I added a trio of hearts over a layered strip line, but just turning the orientation around gives it a completely different look!

Materials and Measurements:
  • Night of Navy Cardstock, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock, 5-1/2″x 2″ strip, 5-1/2″x 1-1/8″ strip, (3 pieces) 2-1/2″x 2-1/2″ for scalloped heart, and 5-1/4″x 4″ for inside
  • Misty Moonlight Cardstock, 5-1/2″x 1/2″ strip
  • Playing With Patterns Ribbon Pack, Night of Navy 1/8″ Ribbon
  • Boho Indigo Designer Series Paper, 5-1/2″x 1-3/4″ strip, scraps of various patterns for 3D hearts
Tools and Dies:
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
  • Stitched Be Mine Dies
Directions:
  • Start with a 2″ wide Very Vanilla strip. Then add a (roughly) 1-3/4″ wide strip of Boho Indigo Designer Series Paper. I love that this print looks like strings of hearts! To that, glue another Vanilla strip, this one at 1-1/8″ wide. Last, glue down a 1/2″ wide strip of Misty Moonlight Cardstock.
  • Tie a 12-14″ length of ribbon around the strips, then glue the strips to the card base.
  • Stamp the heart image on one of the Vanilla squares with Night of Navy ink and crop it out with the coordinating Stitched Be Mine Die
  • Cut two more of the same scalloped hearts. Save the hearts for another project, but stack and glue the two scalloped heart outside pieces over the first one to give some fun dimension. Stamp another sentiment on the inside of the heart such as this one from the Sweet Strawberry Stamp Set. Glue in place.
  • Make your three pop-up hearts as shown below and glue into place.
Easy 3D Pop-Up Hearts

To make my little pop-up hearts (so easy!) I cut two small scalloped hearts using Stitched Be Mine Dies, folded the top one in half lengthwise. Then I added a very thin line of liquid glue to the underside of the top heart along the fold. Next line the two hearts up and press together, then lift up the sides and press with your fingers. Be sure your line of glue is very thin, or you will not be able to lift the sides up as well as you’d like.

On the inside, stamp as desired and glue in place. I used stamps from Meant To Be (Night of Navy ink) and Valentine Keepsakes (Misty Moonlight ink stamped off twice).
