Butterfly Gala Gingham Note Card

Here is the second in my series of Butterfly Gala Note Cards & Envelopes. This time I used the Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper with it, and I think these colors are so fresh and pretty. The gingham checks are reminiscent of my childhood ~ vintage, yet new again!

The trickiest part of this card was cutting the gingham on an angle! I turned the paper so the checks were diagonal, then measured out a 4-5/8″ x 3-1/8″ rectangle, held my breath, and cut! I have some triangle shaped leftovers to use somewhere else. It definitely isn’t the most efficient use of the 6″ x 6″ paper, but it is much more interesting to look at this way!

For the large butterfly and the lower left small one, I stamped with a Butterfly Gala stamp, colored with Blends, and punched with the coordinating punch. For the other two small ones, I “cheated” and merely punched them out of the free Botanical Butterflies DSP! I love it when they create paper and punch or framelits to match!

The Blends colors I used are Calypso Coral and Mango Melody. The Gingham Gala paper I chose is Grapefruit Grove.

The Thank You sentiment comes from A Big Thank You ~ another set I’ve used quite a bit lately! It’s stamped onto a Whisper White Stitched Shape square and layered onto a Basic Black Layering Square scalloped piece.

  1. Love the diagonal gingham. Makes the card come alive.

  2. Love this card and on a diagonal it is even more fun! Thanks for telling us about the body and antennae stamped over the punched butterfly. I will be getting the bundle eventually. Love the pop of black too. I didn’t use black on one I made yesterday and now I wished I had. Oh well. Great card!

    • Hi Chris, Yes, black borders really do make everything pop and often tie in with another black in the card. Thanks for your comments!

  3. Another knockout! Love the diagonal of the gingham. What a great idea. TFS

  4. Very refreshing card. Love the colors. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Inky hugs, Terry ~~

  5. Hi Karen, I IMMEDIATELY noticed the diagonal cut of the gingham DSP. Thought it looked very fresh. I am looking forward to the card with the left over triangles of paper.
    Have a blessed day.
    🙂

  6. Nice! Looks like a good class project!

  7. Another fresh and pretty card…the butterflies are colored beautifully.

  8. Did you fussy cut the butterfly bodies and antlers?

    • No, goodness, no. I should have mentioned that in my post ~ thanks for asking! After punching and gluing the butterflies down, I went back with the body and antennae stamps and stamped them right over the paper with black ink. It couldn’t be easier!
