Birthday Cards Are Always Needed!

Amidst the fervor for Holiday cards, we still need birthday cards, and this past month has busy with birthdays! Here is a card that I created from the beautiful Love What You Do and Share What You Love DSP. I realized that this set had taken a back seat to many newer products, but it really does make such a gorgeous birthday card! So here it is again ~

My blogging has been so scattered and infrequent these past two weeks. Thank you to those of you who have hung in there with me! After company, traveling, and now a nasty virus that knocked me out (literally – I have the black eye to prove it!) I am finally on the mend and am so thankful I will be past it all in time to go to Orlando for OnStage next month. Whew!

I have a few pictures of this card in order to show you the beautiful shimmer and shine on this paper.

I fussy-cut the flower out of the Designer Series Paper. It has a pearlized finish that is really pretty. By the way, I very recently had a customer ask me, “What is DSP – what does that stand for?” If you are wondering the same, it stands for Designer Series Paper. We get caught up in the “shortcuts” and forget sometimes that not everyone knows stamper speak! I hope that helps 🙂

I brushed Wink of Stella on the center of the flower, and stamped the sentiment on Shimmer Paper which adds to the sparkly shine.

I’m sorry I can’t give you the exact dimensions of all the cuts because I’ve already sent this card to the birthday girl, but it should be pretty easy to figure out by the photo. The colors are Tranquil Tide, Mint Macaron, Basic Black, and Whisper White. The leaves are punched out with the Leaf Punch. And the DSP is Share What You Love, on the card and envelope.

Here is the inside. I stamped the sentiment from a retired set using Basic Gray. The small flowers are in the Love What You Do set, stamped with Mint Macaron. And, although you can’t really tell from this photo, I heat embossed just the flowers with Versamark Ink and Clear Embossing Powder. The Stamparatus is the best tool to do this technique. It ensures that the second stamping is in the exact same place. So, I stamped once with the colored ink, stamped a second time with the Versamark ink, then sprinkled embossing powder on it and heat set it. Shiny perfection!

  1. I enjoyed making this card from your card kit with a few little changes. It is a wonderful sketch and the DSP does all the work for us practically. I need two birthday cards for next week, maybe I will pull out this paper again and use it. I keep saying I will make a bunch of cards ahead but I never seem to do that. Maybe this will be the time as I just love this card! Looking forward to my kit with Christmas fun. Oh, I gave one of my customers the Halloween popper/cracker with her order and she said I was going to have to teach her how to make those. She was going to let the grandkids eat the chocolate out of them but she was keeping the wrapper! It sure made her smile.

    • Chris, I am so glad you liked the projects and that your friend did too! I love this card layout for its versatility! You could use pretty much any papers with it and it would have entirely different looks and purposes. Thank you for the feedback!
