This month at CASEing Coast to Coast, Rosanne and I decided to celebrate teachers and the return to school. It’s hard to believe, but many districts have started their 2023-24 school year already! How about a card and handmade gift for your child’s or grandchild’s teacher? As a retired K/1 teacher, I know how many long hours go into preparing for class. Let’s show our appreciation! I have chosen Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper and Bird’s Eye View to make a tent card and matching pencil holder. Check it out ~
This tent card will sit proudly on Teacher’s desk! You can spell out “TEACHER” or his/her name with the alphabet paper in Delightfully Eclectic. That owl with its glasses always makes me smile! đ
Here’s the view from the back~
~with room for your child’s signature.
Tent Card Instructions:
- Bubble Bath Cardstock, 11″x 4-1/4″, folded at 5-1/5″
- Bubble Bath Cardstock for “tent stand”, 3″x 4-1/4″
- Score at 1/2″, 1-1/2″, and 2-1/2″ and fold like a W. It’s easiest to attach this to the card after you decorate the card.
- Delightfully Eclectic DSP, 5-1/2″x 1-7/8″
- Glue this to the card front, toward the left side, leaving about 1/2″ of pink showing on the left.
- Stamp the books and owl with Memento Tuxedo Black onto a 3-1/2″x 2-1/2″ piece of Basic White Cardstock.
- To make it look like the owl is standing on the books, stamp another owl onto Masking Paper and cut it out. Stamp the owl, cover it with the mask, and stamp the books over and below the mask. Peel off the mask and your owl will be proudly perched atop the books!
- Color with Blends Markers.
- Stamp the owl’s eyeglasses with Pretty Peacock ink.
- Crop it out using Nested Essentials Dies, 3’x 2-5/8″. Adhere it to the card front with Dimensionals.
- Cut out “TEACHER” or teacher’s name from the alphabet paper in Delightfully Eclectic and glue to the lower front.
- Embellish with a Baker’s Twine double bow.
- On the back, cut and glue a banner using Nested Essentials Dies, 3’x 2-1/8″. Stamp a sentiment, a second owl, and color as desired. Crop a heart from Radiating Stitches Dies in Pretty Peacock.
- Glue the W “tent stand” to the bottom of the card as shown in above picture. The 1/2″ ends should be glued to the inside front and back of the card. It can close to put in an envelope, but then it will stand nicely on the desk without falling.
- Note: I used a sentiment from (retired) Inspired Thoughts. The little pink hearts are from Country Bouquet.
Pencil Box:
This is a collapsible box that is only glued on one side. The bottom flaps open up to fit neatly into a 5″x 7″ envelope. I learned how to make this from Sam Hammond of Pootles in the UK. I will give you the cutting and scoring dimensions, but I’ll refer you to her YouTube Channel to watch how it’s put together. She calls it a “Desk Tidy.”
- Bubble Bath Cardstock, 8″x 8-1/2″
- Score on the long side 2″, 4″, 6″, and 8″
- Score on the short side 4″, 5″
- Delightfully Eclectic DSP, (4 each) 3-3/4″x 1-3/4″ -and- (4 each) 3/4″x 1-3/4″
- I glued two panels showing the alphabet side and two showing the hearts side of the same paper. I also colored in a few more of the hearts with a Bubble Bath Stampin’ Write Marker. For the “feet” of the box, I used only the hearts side.
Pink not your thing?
If your child has a male teacher, Bubble Bath pink might not be your first choice of paper. I made a second box using more gender-neutral colors. The fun part is decorating these gifts any way you choose! For this one I used Lost Lagoon Cardstock and paired Masterfully Made with Delightfully Eclectic DSP.

Love this, My daughter is into her 28th year of Pre-K and I think this would be a cute surprise for her.
I love that idea, Gayla! Exactly how I hoped it would be used! Thanks!
Great projects! I have two granddaughters & I’ll be casing both your card & the pencil holder. Thanks so much for sharing your creations!!
Thank you, Karen!
These are awesome projects Karen! Love the tent card and the Desk Tidy. As a former teacher myself I am sure this will put a smile on any teacher’s face and start the year on a positive note. The retired sentiment is perfect! (Another reason I don’t like to retire my stamp sets. LOL)
I know! Lol! There are some sets I will never let go! Thanks, Jeanie!
I don’t retire my stuff either, Jeanie! I still have lots of wood stamp sets.
If I give anything away, I’ll need it the next day. ha-ha-ha!
This is so pretty and you instructions are GREAT. Thank you so muchh.
You are most welcome! Thank you for your kind words!
Even though my husband taught 9th grade he still would have loved this. Great idea on doing the tent card. Great projects.
Such great projects! We have 3 new teachers in our elementary line up this year, and these would be perfect âWelcome aboardâ gifts. I better get busyâwe start on the 30th! Thanks for the inspiration!
You’re welcome, Linda! They were fun to make and not difficult.
Adorable card and box. Love the colors and design. I saw your project on Roseanne’s blog and had to come over and tell you much I like it. TFS
Thanks so much for coming over, JoAnn!
As I mentioned in my blog post, I think your projects are terrific. Wonderful idea to acknowledge a teacher at the beginning of the school year. This was another fun stamping adventure! Looking forward to next month!
Thanks, Rosanne! My set is on its way to Boise for my grandson to take to his new teacher! Looking forward to our next CC2C!
