This birthday card is for a very good friend of ours. We spend time at the beach with him and his wife each year. They both have paddle boards and we have a lot of fun on the water. I altered the surfboards from Beach Day to look more like stand-up paddle boards and colored them to look like their boards! It’s the end of the day here, a beach day sunset!
I took the sentiment from retired Paradise Palms because it was the perfect size and and the perfect message for the card.
Here are the measurements:
- Azure Afternoon Cardstock for the base, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″ folded at 4-1/4″; and 5-3/8″x 1-1/4″ for the water
- Basic White for the first layer, 5-3/8″x 4-1/8″
- Very Vanilla Cardstock for the sand, in two pieces ~ 5-3/8″x 1-7/8″, and 5-3/8″x 7/8″; and a scrap for the sand castle
- Basic White for the boards, the chairs, and the umbrella
More details:
- For the sunset and sky, I masked off a 1-1/2″ circle and blended with brushes using Balmy Blue, Daffodil Delight, and Fresh Freesia.
- For the sun, I took the negative part of the circle mask and isolated the sun then blended it with a brush and Daffodil Delight.
- To make the curves of the water and sand go in alternating directions I turned the Azure and the lower Vanilla pieces over, so you see the back side of them. I left the top portion of the lower sand piece un-glued so I could tuck the boards and the umbrella stand in it.
- I stamped the sand castle with Crumb Cake and the sentiment with Memento Black.
- To color the umbrella, the chairs, and the boards, I used Blends: Azure Afternoon, Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Pecan Pie, and Basic Black.
- The blue chair is popped up with a Dimensional.
