April Paper Pumpkin Alternative Ideas

I had a TON of fun creative alternative cards with the April Pumpkin Paper Kit! Even though I loved the ideas that the kit came with, I enjoyed spreading out all the parts and pieces and coming up with my own ideas. No, they are not too far off from the originals, but take a look and see what you think.

For this first one, I turned the base card on its side. Then added two layers behind the pre-printed card front. I used Flirty Flamingo and Basic Gray for the layers. Then I stamped the leaves with the Gray Granite Stampin’ Spot that came in the kit. I stamped “Thinking of You” in Basic Black, daubed it lightly with Flirty Flamingo and sponged the edge of the banner. Then I glued that to one of the corrugated labels, cut flags on the ends, and added a twine bow.

On this second one, I layered the card front with Mint Macaron and So Saffron before glueing it to the Saffron Card Base.  I stamped the large flower with So Saffron and daubed some Daffodil delight in the center to brighten it up. “Thank You” is in Mint Macaron and is glued to another corrugated banner.

For this one I stamped the flower in Flirty Flamingo right over the pinkish splotch on the pre-printed card front, then added two Gray Granite leaves. I glued the card front on the far right side of the base card, added twine and enamel dots.

This one may be my favorite. First I glued a 5″ x 3-1/2″ piece of Mint Macaron to a white Note Card, then added the card front to the far right side. The corrugated strip down the seam is two pieces, cut to fit. I stamped the flower three times with Flirty Flamingo and fussy cut them out. The bottom one is the full flower, the middle cropped in a bit, and the third one is just the center petals. I stacked them and glued them in the center, lifting the petals up a bit for dimension. I also stamped the leaves with Mint Macaron and fussy cut them out. The Enamel Dots add some shine.

Here is one more card, this time a full-sized card. I cut the yellow top of the base card off, layered it with So Saffron. Then I glued it to a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ Whisper White Thick card base. This time I stamped the flower with So Saffron, cut it out, and added it to the front with Dimensionals. The Mint Macaron leaves are also hand-cut and attached with Glue Dots.

The kit came with this acetate box. I assembled it as directed and it easily holds five of the Note Cards and Envelopes with room for more.

Did you like seeing some alternative uses for this kit? I am looking forward to the May kit ~ Shelli’s kit! I may want to make her cards as directed, or I may want to branch out and try something new again. I’ll have to wait and see it!

  1. These are beautiful Karen. I haven’t done my kit yet but I like your stepped up version. I think this is one of the better PP kits.

  2. Really like your these cards. These are uncomplicated alternatives. Glad I waited to start on my kit.

  3. The dimension you created by fussy-cutting the roses and leaves is wonderful. I decided I need at least 2 PP kits every month so that I can do 1 as intended by the directions, and one to explore alternatives, especially after seeing such creative tweaks as yours. TFS

    • I agree, Linda! I called to order another kit, but they have sold out! This was a particularly pretty kit. I can’t wait to see Shelli’s next month!

Great cards! I love the changes. I opened my kit to make sure all was in there but haven’t made anything with it yet. Love the layers and fussy cutting as well as all the extra little touches.

  5. Those are really pretty, Karen. The fussy cutting and layering of the flowers made a stepped up version that really enhanced the kit. Thanks for sharing.
