52 Christmas Card Throwdown

I think Christmas in July is such a fun concept! I can’t get too serious about the holidays yet, but it’s fun to take on a challenge now and then. Today I am entering a Sketch Challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. Here is the sketch that I took my inspiration from.

And I got an Honorable Mention!

I took a very literal approach to the sketch. This sketch would be great for any occasion ~ such a classic design! I chose Brightly Gleaming Designer Series Paper and a sentiment from Winter Woods by Stampin’ Up!

This is a top-folding 4-1/4″ square card. I covered the entire front with the DSP. The layers are as follows: Pretty Peacock, 3-3/8″ square; Very Vanilla, 3-1/4″ square; Night of Navy and Pretty Peacock, 3/8″ wide x 3-1/4″; Gold Foil and Very Vanilla, 2-1/8″ circles from Layering Circles Dies.

I splattered a bit of Copper Shimmer Paint on the Vanilla layer and added a bow with Night of Navy ribbon from the Playing With Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack.

Then I made my own envelope with our old Envelope Punch Board out of Vanilla paper and covered the back flap with more of the Brightly Gleaming DSP. I love that this paper has carried over from last year!

Check out what the rest of the projects look like over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. You might get the urge to start a little “Christmas in July!”

Gorgeous card! I think I would like to CASE this beauty. Love it. I rarely make square cards. I am too lazy to make the envelope. So, I will do mine a little differently.

    • Chris, you can use a regular medium envelope for a square card this size – 4-1/4″. I would recommend sliding a piece of scrap cardstock 5-1/2″x 4-1/4″ in the envelope with it if you are mailing it. That way there is no chance of it getting bent up in the postal machine (well, I guess that is always possible! but it lessens the chances!) And it won’t require extra postage that way!
