Uniquely Artistic (for PP593)

Inspired by the colors in the photo from Greece below, I created this birthday card using the Uniquely Artistic Stamp Set, Happiness Abounds sentiment, and Deckled Rectangle Dies.

My elements were inspired by the Paper Players Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge this week. From the graphic below, I chose Embossing, Floral, and Pearls for my design.

Details:
  • Crumb Cake base 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″
  • Crumb Cake layer, cut with the largest of the Deckled Rectangle Dies
  • Balmy Blue layer, cut with the 3rd from largest of the Deckled Dies
  • Basic White layer, cut with the 4th from largest of the Deckled Dies

I stamped the solid image for the leaves with Balmy Blue, then went over the top with the outline stamp and Versamark Ink. I then sprinkled White Emboss Powder and heat set it for a lovely shine.

For the sentiment, I stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black, then again with Versamark. I heat embossed it with Clear Emboss Powder.

5 surrounding Pearls finish it off.

Naxos

The next stop on our Greek adventure was the island of Naxos. What a fascinating island this is! Again, not one of the more touristy islands, which made it all the more charming to us! Naxos is known for its marble, farming, cheeses, honey, a liquor called Kitron (think limoncello), olive oil, and “The Big Door.”

Yes, “The Big Door!”

The Portara of Naxos (locals call it “The Big Door”) is a huge marble doorway that would have been the entrance to the Temple of Apollo, had they ever finished it. War in the 6th century BC stopped the construction abruptly. Now it’s the “jewel” of Naxos, overlooking the town of Chora, the port of Naxos. It greets the ferries from its hill. We climbed up to the top to view the sunset which was quite the magical moment! There was a man playing an unusual instrument to accompany the sunset – very dramatic!

Here you can get the perspective of its position up on the hill. Naxos may have been one of my favorite islands to visit. I’ll share more pictures from our days in Naxos next week.

Have a wonderful weekend!
