To CASE or not to CASE?

“CASE”: to Copy and Share Everything.   I say, why not? As long as you give credit to the original designer! (It does NOT feel good to put your creative heart & soul into something and have someone else copy it and pretend that it’s their design!) But that being said, we are all willing to share our creations with everyone, otherwise we wouldn’t be putting them online, right? Right.

I CASEd this card from the Annual Catalog. I don’t know who the original designer is, but I want to thank some staff person that put this in the catalog, because I love it and it’s a perfect card for my sil!

And here’s my card.

Bird Ballad DSP, Free As A Bird stamp set, coloring with Blends, heat embossing, fussy cutting, birthday card idea, bird card, Stampin Up, Karen Hallam

There are a few differences, but the overall design was someone else’s, thus a CASE. It’s just so pretty with Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper. I cut the bird right out of the paper, then stamped and colored the leaves with my Blends. Unfortunately there are no dies to cut these out the easy way, but not too difficult with scissors.

I stamped the HELLO twice with Versamark ink onto Basic Gray cardstock, then heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Then there is that sweet little Bird Ballad Trinket dangling from a bow of Baker’s Twine that just adds the perfect touch of hand made goodness!

On the inside, I stamped the flowers and buds that are part of the Free As A Bird set, colored them with Blends, cut them out and arranged them on the page. Why didn’t I just stamp and color them directly onto the card? Because the Blends Alcohol Markers bleed through to the back side. Not pretty! 🙂  And this way, I could arrange them how I liked them.

I hope you enjoyed my case of a CASE today! Be creative, but feel free to use others’ designs as a jump-off point. It’s how we learn and eventually develop our own style. And THAT becomes very rewarding!

Have a great day!

  1. I’m with Chris. I think I need to CASE your CASE. Very pretty and I just got my Free as Bird Bundle in the mail!

Love this and did not remember it in the catalog. I checked it out and I like yours even better. Theirs has the flower in the middle and that lopsided. Love your leaf trinket much better. Your darker leaves make it pop more. I think I just might have to CASE your CASE of the catalog!!!

  3. Wonderful CASE, Karen! One of the many reasons to have the catalog!! 🙂

    • Thanks, Katy. The catalog has some treasures in there, doesn’t it? It’s fun to try some of the things they put in there!

  4. Beautiful CASE. Thanks for the lovely close-ups and for the idea for the inside!
