Summertime (for CC2C!)

It’s been a couple of months since we have done a CASEing Coast to Coast post! I’m so glad to be back at it! Thanks for visiting today. Rosanne Mulhern in Pennsylvania, and I, Karen Hallam in California, take turns getting inspiration from one another and today Rosanne takes the lead. She decided on the theme of Summertime. Seems appropriate! 🙂 Here is her card from Heartfelt Stamping.

Isn’t it so cute? These images are absolutely summer fun! You can read the details of her card HERE.

To me, summertime means beach time, so I reached for Oceanfront and Paradise Palms for my card. Here it is:

oceanfront, paradise palms bundle, creating a scene, multi-use card idea, stampin up, karen hallam

If you’ve been following me awhile, you may know that my family lived in Hawaii when I was in high school. We lived a block from the beach in Kailua on Oahu. Many hours were spent on the beach, and not only in the summertime. When I went home from my first semester at the University of Oregon at Christmas, I headed straight to the surf! Fun how making cards can bring back memories!

Here is my card recipe:
  • Garden Green Cardstock base, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″ scored and folded at 4-1/4″
  • Coastal Cabana Cardstock layer, 5″x 3-3/4″
  • Basic White Cardstock layer, 4-7/8″x 3-5/8″
  • Oceanfront and Paradise Palms stamp sets and dies from Stampin’ Up!
Creating the Artwork:
  • Stamp the sun using Daffodil Delight in the upper right.
  • Create a mask for the sun by stamping it on Masking Paper or a Post-It Note, trim it out and remove the paper backing if you’re using Masking Paper.
  • Cover the sun with the mask and stamp the sky with Balmy Blue over the mask about 1/4″ from the top of the paper.
  • Next, stamp the water with Pool Party directly below the sky. Add a little Wink of Stella for some sparkle in the water.
  • Now stamp the sand using Sahara Sand directly below the water line.
  • Using the grass stamp from Paradise Palms, stamp two rows of grass with Garden Green ink.
  • Die cut the Palm fronds out of Garden Green Cardstock and Palms Dies.
  • Die cut the tree trunk with another die from Palms Dies and Soft Suede Cardstock. Glue together and onto the card.
  • Stamp the greeting from Paradise Palms using Coastal Cabana ink and crop it out with a stitched label die. I used one from (retired) Hippo & Friends. Adhere with Dimensionals.

When I made this card, I was thinking that it could be for either a man or a woman. If you need a Father’s Day card for someone who enjoys the beach, this could be your card!

Have a great week! Be sure to head over to the east coast and read about Rosanne’s card at www.heartfeltstamping.com. See you next time!

  1. Great card reminiscent of your younger days, Karen. You always use these watercolor type stamps sets so well. How lucky you were to live in such a beautiful and exotic place. Glad to be back at it at CC2C!
