Simple Saturday: Abstract Beauty

Limited resources/materials? I want to show you that you can make beautiful cards with just a few basic products! Of course, you can “beef” it up with more if you have it. This simple card is an example of a beautiful card you can make without needing expensive machines, dies, etc.

This card takes me back to my stamping/crafting roots – where it all started for me. All you need to have is some colored cardstock, white cardstock, a pack of DSP, a great sentiment stamp set, one ink pad, a label punch, and some adhesives. To make it a bit more special, give it dimension with Dimensionals, add some Baker’s Twine and an embellishment!

The DSP I chose is called Abstract Beauty. It comes in a package of 48 double-sided sheets, and each sheet measures 4″x 6″ – perfect for card fronts. I cut this flower one down to 3-1/4″x 4-1/4″ and matted it with Night of Navy Cardstock, 3-1/2″x 4-1/2″. There was a small strip left to put on the inside. The pink sheet is the back of another piece and it coordinates perfectly with the flowered side.

All The Details:
  • Night of Navy Cardstock base – 5-1/2″x 8-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″
  • Abstract Beauty 4″x 6″ DSP – (pink) 4″x 5-1/4″, (flowered) 3-1/4″x 4-1/4″
  • Night of Navy layer – 3-1/2″x 4-1/2″
  • Basic White Cardstock – 1-3/4″x 2-1/2″, stamped and punched with Everyday Label Punch
  • Stamp Set – Best Year
  • Ink – Night of Navy
  • Baker’s Twine – (navy) Fan Baker’s Twine 3-pack
  • Brushed Metallic Dot (gold)
  • Inside: Basic White Cardstock – 4″x 5-1/4″, 3/4″x 4″ strip of Abstract Beauty DSP

If you have limited resources, I recommend getting a good sentiment stamp set. This one, Best Year, has several different sayings with a lovely font.

You can also eliminate the punch and just cut a rectangle for the sentiment if need be. However, a label punch is a good investment that you will use time and time again.

Please let me know if this was helpful to you! I think sometimes we get very elaborate with many products that we have and that is a lot of fun, but not practical for many people.
