Saturday Stamping: More Painted Christmas

Hi there, I’m back with another Saturday Stamping post, a day when I unapologetically mix new and old products! OK, you got me, I sometimes do that on other days, too. But I love my old sets and want to use them! I’m guessing you do as well. Am I right?

Today I’m using the beautiful Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper by Stampin’ Up! This is one of my favorites. Not only do I love the traditional red and green prints, I’m a total fan of watercolor and appreciate the artwork.

Make it a Fun Fold!

This card is a super fun fold! I learned about this fold from Rachel Tessman. I believe she called it a 3-Panel Scenery Z Fold. Here’s why: You cut one piece of DSP, 6″x 5-1/2″ in landscape position, then cut it into three panels. The cuts are (left to right) 5-1/4″x 2-3/4″, 5-1/4″x 1-1/8″, and 5-1/4″x 2-1/8″. Keep them in the original placement, so you have a continuous “scenery” look when you open it.

The base card (Real Red) is 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″ and 7″ to create the Z Fold.

The first panel of DSP (on the left) gets glued only on the 1-1/2″ part of the Z Fold base. The right side of the DSP just hangs out and over when it’s open. The 1-1/8″ panel is glued just to the left of the center fold. The remaining 2-1/8″ piece is glued to the right of the center fold. I chose Pear Pizzazz cardstock to fill in the remaining portion. I cut it to 5-1/4″x 1-3/4″.

Here are a couple different angles to give you the idea of how this goes together.

To Decorate the Front

The leafy spray that I used on the left of the front is from Artistic Dies. I cut one spray from Garden Green Cardstock, snipped off the top two leaves, glued the big portion to the back of the 1-1/2″‘ fold as shown below. Then I used Glue Dots to secure it, and covered the Glue Dots with a 1/2″ circle (retired punch) of Real Red. Not wanting to waste the two leftover leaves, I glued them to the inside, attaching them to the sentiment strip that contains a stamp from Poinsettia Petals.

On the front panel I used Layering Circles Dies and stamped a sentiment from (retired) Tin of Tags in Garden Green. This circle needs to be glued thoughtfully, so as not to glue the Z Fold shut! Leave the left side of the circle unglued.

  1. Cute! I think I might have to CASE this too. So fun. I saw Rachel’s and wasn’t sure about it. I’m using old and new too. So much fun to use old friends. I had the sentiment you used out the other day and thought I would use a few in that set just for fun. I like making a bunch of different cards. I do really like the DSP you used too. I love the watercolor look. Thanks for the instructions too.
