Painting the Blues for PPA 305

We have a beautiful combination of blues to play with this week at palspaperarts.com.  Windy Ellard has challenged us to make a project using Island Indigo, Pool Party, and Whisper White.  Here is the challenge banner:

Such a pretty combination!  I used Island Indigo for my base card at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″.  Then I topped it with a piece of Pool Party dotted DSP, measuring 4 3/4″ x 3 1/2″.

I used our new Layering Squares Framelits and cut a hole through both layers.  The opening measures 1 3/4″.  Using one square framelit and one scalloped framelit, I created the little white frame to glue around the “window.”

On the inside I stamped the flower image from Birthday Blooms with Versamark ink, then heat embossed it using black embossing powder.  With my AquaPainters I painted the flower with Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, and Wild Wasabi ink.  I did a light wash of Soft Sky around the entire flower.

Both sentiments, front and inside, are also from Birthday Blooms.  I used Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  It would have looked great with black embossing as well, and if I were to make this card again, I think I would do that!

A little ribbon of Bermuda Bay 1/8″ Stitched Ribbon finishes off the front.

Habit Tip:
Draw a faint pencil line around the opening of your square onto the inside white paper to give you a guideline for stamping your flower.  Erase it with a good art eraser after stamping and no one will ever know it was there.  It does take the guess work out of it!  And your placement will be spot on!

Thanks for checking in with me today.  I hope you like the card and will go give it a try.  I have to say, I was on the fence about buying these new framelits, since I still have my old square framelits.  I am so glad I did!  There are so many sizes and the layering is so much more versatile, especially with the scalloped ones.  Get them ~ you’ll thank me!!!

Happy Stamping!
