Let’s Set Sail (for CCMC730)

Here we are ~ the last Thursday of August! Just a little more time to get out and have some fun with water sports like sailing, boating, paddling, swimming. Those were my thoughts when I picked Let’s Set Sail for CCMC730. It’s a color challenge this week and our colors are a summery Parakeet Party, Tahitian Tide, and Crushed Curry.

Tons of Techniques!
  • Watercolor:  I decided to use watercolor on this card and I started with a high quality watercolor paper. You can get some good paper here. I used Tahitian Tide to watercolor the sea and Crushed Curry to watercolor a circle of sun rays.
  • Stamping on embossed cardstock:  I gave my boat some extra texture by embossing a piece of Basic White Cardstock with the Into The Clouds Embossing Folder. Then I stamped the boat and mast with Soft Suede ink onto the embossed white cardstock. It gave the boat some really cool texture. I did the same with the sails and Parakeet Party ink. Then I punched it all out with the Sailboat Builder Punch.
  • Add some dimension:  I used Dimensionals behind the two sails to make them look wind-filled. Then I did another cool trick with the sun. First I stamped it with the sun stamp from Paradise Palms and Crushed Curry ink. Then I cut it out with Paper Snips. Next I turned it upside down on a Pierce Mat and rubbed my scoring stylus in a circular motion all over the back of the sun. This caused it to raise up in a dome-like manner. I put a Mini Dimensional behind it and placed it in the center of the watercolored sun rays.
  • Stamp over the watercolor:  I made the water look like it has motion by stamping the water stamp from Oceanfront over the watercolored area. Tahitian Tide is the color for both – a tone-on-tone look.

The Final Touch ~

My final stamping was the birds and sentiment, both with Basic Gray ink directly onto the watercolor paper. And my last technique trick was to color some rhinestones with my Tahitian Tide Blends Marker, which added some sparkle to the water.

Now, don’t you want to go sailing before the summer is over? Yeah!

Before you head out to the water, though, take a look at the other cards that the CCMC designers made with these colors. Click HERE. They always inspire me. I hope they do you, too!

Have a good day,
