Hello, Happy Forest Friends!

We’re back with another Thursday sketch challenge at Create With Connie & Mary! This is a great sketch that will lend itself to many different ideas. I chose this sweet Designer Series Paper that just makes me smile 🙂 Well, Hello, Happy Forest Friends!

Isn’t it cute? This would make a sweet baby card, too. I don’t have any babies in my circle of friends or family right now, so I’m sticking with a little hello (from Pansy Patch.)  Here is the sketch ~

My Card Details:
  • Old Olive Cardstock base, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″
  • Happy Forest Friends Designer Series Paper (measurements below)
  • Basic White Cardstock, 4″x 1/2″, for sentiment from Pansy Patch in Old Olive
  • 2022-2024 In Color Baker’s Twine in Sweet Sorbet

Cutting and lining up this DSP was a little fussy, I’m not going to lie. Here is what I ended up doing (perhaps you can come up with an easier idea!)

  • I cut a piece of the DSP at approximately 4″x 4″ after deciding which part of the print I wanted to show. Then I glued it down to the left side of a separate piece of Olive cardstock measuring 5-1/4″x 4″.
  • Next, I cut 1/2″ strips of the 3 colors of DSP from the same pack plus about a 3/4″ strip from the original DSP to match the picture from the left side. Does that even make any sense? Stick with me…
  • I glued the far right strip down to the right side of the Olive cardstock piece, then I glued the other three strips into place, overlapping the owl sheet just a little.
  • Once everything was glued where I wanted it, I cropped the whole thing out with the largest Stitched Rectangle Die. I then glue that piece to the cardstock base.
  • I stamped the sentiment in Old Olive on the Basic White strip and popped it up with Dimensionals.
  • A double Baker’s Twine bow finishes it off. I think the Sweet Sorbet color on the twine matches the coral in the DSP quite nicely!

  1. Hello from Canada!!! I was wondering if you have a collection of sketches that I would be able to print out. I only started looking at your site not that long ago. Would love to catch up.

    • Hi Kim, thanks for finding my blog! I don’t have a collection of sketches other than on my Pinterest site, if that is something you can use. They are sketches that I’ve collected from different challenges, etc. I do have a monthly club that I call “Two For You” where I make a card, type up a tutorial, list all the supplies that I used on the card, and send it to you through email. It’s for inspiration and layout design ideas. You get two tutorials per month and it is $9.95/month. You can sign up for one month or multiple months. Let me know if you are interested in something like that, or give it a try for one month and see if you like it!
