Gingerbread House (for CCMC737)

Have you ever made a gingerbread house? We used to give our kindergartners a small milk carton and some graham crackers, frosting, and candy. That was a delightfully sticky, messy project and oh-so-fun! A friend of mine who is part of my Stampin’ Up! team brought me a kit last year to make a gingerbread house. She’s a realtor and was having an online contest for her clients and friends. Very clever and again, a goopy, messy, and totally fun project!

For today’s Create With Connie & Mary, we have a sketch challenge. I just couldn’t resist this candy cane striped paper for this task. I got the basic card made but didn’t know what to put on it for the focal point. Then this gingerbread house came to mind and I got to work building a sweet little “candy” house.

First, the sketch~

The Recipe ~
  • Garden Green Cardstock base, 8-1/2″x 5-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″
  • Sweetest Christmas DSP (green, red, and white stripe), 5-1/4″x 4″
  • Sweetest Christmas DSP (red and white polka-dot), 5″x 2-1/2″ and cut on an angle
  • Basic White Cardstock, 5″x 2″ and cut on the same angle; for inside – 5-1/4″x 4″
Tips & Details ~
  • Glue the polka-dot DSP to the striped DSP at an angle. Cut off the excess on both sides to meet the edges of the striped DSP.
  • Now glue the white cardstock to the polka-dot piece, centering top and bottom, at the same angle. Trim off the edges to make the whole piece 5-1/4″x 4″.
  • Stamp the trees and sentiment with Garden Green ink. You may want to mask off the top and bottom edges to prevent inking the red polka-dot DSP. To get different shades of green in the trees, stamp some full-strength and some stamped off once.
  • Glue this to the card base.
  • Create the gingerbread house and adhere with Dimensionals. To create the “smoke” coming out of the chimney, I just drew a squiggle with a black pen then cut around it and attached it with Mini Dimensionals. The door knob and red berries are made with Pearlized Enamel Effects. I also added Wink of Stella to the lollipop and wreath. Word of Caution: the Wink of Stella will smear the red ink, so add with care. You may notice the white stripe in my lollipop is actually pink now!

There was a 4″x 3/4″ strip of DSP left over, so I added it to the inside. My candy canes came from the Spruced Up Bundle.

Now join me in hopping over to Create With Connie & Mary to see what fun designs the rest of the team came up with!

Have a sweet day!

  1. So cute. I still have some of the ones that was in a PP kit a couple of years ago. Maybe time to break them out and CASE your card. It won’t be as cute as yours with the trees but I can work around that I think. Thanks for a great idea! Love the polka dots with the stripes too. Great sketch.

  2. Very Clever and Cute. Never made a Gingerbread house…this one I could handle
