Free As A Bird?

Do you prefer your birds in cages? or out in the wild? I have two cards to share with you today that gives you one of each! Both cards are identical in layout, both use the image from Free As A Bird stamp set, but each with its own colors and papers.

First, the caged bird ~

I guess you could say he escaped, as he’s clearly not IN the cage! This card is done in Calypso Coral with the DSP and feathers from Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper. I colored the bird with Crumb Cake and Calypso Coral Blends.

Then there is the bird in the wild ~

He is colored with Crumb Cake and Pool Party Blends. The pink flowered paper is Bird Ballad DSP. I stamped, colored, and hand cut the three flowers that are glued to the circle frame.

Birding

I went “birding” over the weekend with a group for my sister-in-law’s birthday. We were watching many different species of birds along the rugged Northern California coast. I took a photo of a young stork sunning on a rock out in the ocean by holding my camera up to the telescope that was pointed at the stork.

He is very camouflaged against the rock. His features really show up best when magnified. Here you mostly see his head and bill. If you zoom in, you might see him better. I thought it was really cool.

But when I wasn’t looking at the birds, this sweet little Aussie puppy had a lot of my attention!! (That’s me with the purple backpack :-))

The Bird Ballad Suite can be viewed here. If you would like to purchase any of these products, I would love to have you order them from my online store! I will send you a little thank you gift, because I appreciate you that much! Thank you!

I hope you are enjoying your week!

  1. Love your cards! Both of them are beautiful and are so “different”! Love the picture of the stork too! What a beautiful picture that is too!

  2. Beautiful cards, Karen!
    Have a blessed day.

  3. Chris from Pella

Fun outing. I like both cards but for some reason the calls coral one captured my attention. Maybe because it looks like a robin in coloring. We have lots of robins in our yard as well as many other birds.

    • Thanks, Chris! When we were in Iowa we had a lot of fun sitting on our cousin’s back deck and watching all the beautiful birds their feeders attracted. It was a huge bird “show!”

  4. I’m a new subscriber, and sad to think of how much I’ve missed! Really like your cards today, and I love this entire suite! Cool picture of that stork too.
