Flying Home for Mother’s Day

Here’s a sweet card using Flying Home stamp set* for Mother’s Day. The mama bird with her babies just seemed perfect for the occasion!

This card measures 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ square, so it fits into a regular Medium Envelope, although a custom envelope with a fun print would be so cute. Cut Crumb Cake cardstock to 4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″ and fold it in half. Then cut another piece of Crumb Cake to 4-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ and run it through the Big Shot using the Pinewood Planks Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. This next photo shows you the texture a bit better ~

Isn’t that texture awesome? Before gluing the textured piece to the base card, wrap a 12″ length of ribbon around it and tie a knot off to the left side. I used Soft Sky 3/8″ Classic Weave Ribbon.

Now for the stamping ~

I used thick Whisper White and cut a circle using the largest of the Layering Circles Framelits. Then I stamped the image from Flying Home in the middle using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. For the coloring, I used my Stampin’ Blends: Crumb Cake, Night of Navy, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight, and light Pool Party for the shading around the outside.

Next I layered the white circle onto a piece of Soft Sky cardstock*, cut with the largest of the scalloped Layering Circles Framelits. Adhere it to the card with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

For the banner, use Teeny Tiny Wishes* and punch two banners with the Classic Label Punch, the stamped white one and a Soft Sky one.  Offset these and glue them to the circle.

On the inside, I used a sentiment from A Mother’s Flair*, and quickly added a touch of color with my Blends.

I’m not sure why, but I love small square cards! Just something a bit different, I guess. Wouldn’t this be cute to send to a mom with three children? Awe…

*As are many of our stamp sets, papers, and embellishments, this stamp set, ribbon, and Soft Sky cardstock will be retiring after May 31st. So if you love them, get them now. Supplies are only available until they are sold out, even if that is before May 31st. Don’t wait!

Love this card! Thank you for the directions.

  2. This is adorable!

  3. ADORABLE! I adore this stamp set and I adore the way that you added the pool party around the colored image – makes a BIG STATEMENT and one that I am going to “memory bank” – SUPER-DE-DUPER!

    • Thanks, Susan! I remembered doing that light shadow around the objects when watercoloring, so I thought I’d try it with the Blends. The light Pool Party is pale enough that it works!

Such a sweet Mother’s Day card…I forgot about that size card and the fact that you can use a regular envelope. Thanks for that reminder!

  5. Hi Karen, What a cute card. I love all the shapes. The blue birds are the best!
    Happy Hump Day.
