Emboss Resist (CASE for CSF 879)

Today at Create with Stamping Friends we are CASEing a card in the catalog, page 132. My card doesn’t look at all like this sample! What I decided to CASE was the technique “emboss resist.” The stamp set I used is Beautiful Butterflies.

Here’s our challenge:

If you’ve never tried the emboss resist technique, I encourage you to give it a try. It’s really “magical” how the stamping stands out after applying the watercolor.

Here’s what I did:
  • I stamped the butterfly onto Basic White Cardstock, 5″x 3-3/4″ before cropping, with Versamark Ink.
  • Next I sprinkled white embossing powder over the image and heat set it.
  • Then I brushed Bubble Bath ink diluted with water over the whole piece using a Water Painter (wide tip) and let it dry.
  • Once it was very dry, I gently buffed the butterfly embossing with a clean cloth to remove any lingering pink, and cropped it down to 4-1/2″x 3-1/4″.
  • With a piece of Basic White Cardstock measuring 5-1/2″x 4-1/4″, I tore about 1/4″ off around each side, giving it a rustic look.
  • I mounted the torn white to a base card of Highland Heather, glued the butterfly layer on top of that, then added my Highland Heather sprig and sentiment.
  • To finish it off, I added three sparkly purple gems.

You can also use watercolor paper if you find the cardstock gets too warpy when wet.

I love the look of this card! It’s simple in design but there are several elements to it. What will you emboss resist?
