Dragonflies & Leaves

Greetings! And Happy Monday to you!

I am back from my week up in the Seattle area. It was beautiful up there as always. The green is so lush due to constant drizzle and cool temps, and I can definitely see the attraction to that area. The highlight for me though was spending the week with my almost-12 year old grandson and watching him play baseball. We had a great time!

Now that I’m back, I can refocus on the fact that it is June, the catalog has launched, and there are some beautiful new products to share! Do you have the new catalog? You will definitely want one as there are some fantastic projects to inspire you. If you don’t have one yet, you can look at the electronic version HERE.

Designer Series Paper

One of my favorite things about every new catalog is the new Designer Series Papers. I am a paper fanatic, and I love getting every new selection Stampin’ Up! has to offer.

For my card today, I’ve paired Tranquil Textures with Nature’s Poem. I think the two coordinate beautifully and the tie-in for this card is the returning color, Mint Macaron.

I used Mint Macaron cardstock for my base card, then added a layer of Whisper White behind the textural mint from Tranquil Textures.

Then I added a 2″ x 4-7/8″ piece from Nature’s Poem DSP. The delicate leaves in this print are lovely in Cajun Craze, Petal Pink, and Mint Macaron.

You can see how the two work so well together! I love them both. Now let’s talk about those dragonflies ~

To create these, I took the same three colors of ink – Cajun Craze, Petal Pink, and Mint Macaron, and sponged them onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I used Sponge Daubers and went in circles, but wasn’t too picky about how it looked. Then I cut the dragonflies out using the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits with my Big Shot. The colors fell as they may. Then I brushed a thick coat of Wink of Stella over the whole piece and let it dry thoroughly before adding the Mini Dimensionals onto the back. They are fabulous in person – very shiny/sparkly – and they take on a texture of their own!

I added some copper colored Metallics Sequins to pull out the Cajun color.

On the inside, I stamped a small dragonfly from the Touches of Texture stamp set. I stamped it in Mint Macaron then daubed Cajun Craze in random spots.

I have no sentiment! Does that bother anyone? Did you mean to ask me….? I’m waiting to see what occasion I will use it for. When I find the right use, I will stamp an appropriate message inside. This card could be used for many different occasions!

  1. Hi Karen, I see I’m a day late for you too. Most of the time I try to get my transcription done first and read my emails and comment as a reward. Then, poof the day is gone and I’m too tired. I love how you did the dragonflies. They are so great. The sequins are fantastic too. I love the copper metallic.
So, I’m finished my work for today, so on to your next post.
    🙂

  2. Beautiful Card (again!) and I am so glad that you had a great time away! I admit, as sad as I am that Hannah will be going to Seattle for 6 years…I am super excited to go and visit as I hear it is beautiful!…..just like YOU!!!!

Have a great day and happy NEW catalog!

    • You’ll want to visit Seattle over and over again, Susan – there is so much to see in the city and surrounding areas. When Hannah gets acquainted with the area, she’ll have LOTS of places to take you. You will love it!
