Daisy Lane on Watercolor for #FF0038

I chose to try a watercolor background for my card today in order to join in on the Festive Friday Challenge for the week: Parent’s Day and/or Watercolor:

And my card was picked as a “Fave!”

I guess my inspiration came from some of the big, bold prints on the new Designer Series Papers, which I love! So I thought I’d make a backdrop for a Brown Eyed Susan.

Easy Watercolor Technique

To make this background I covered a piece of Watercolor Paper with plain water. To that, I dropped ink from my Ink Refill bottles. I used Old Olive, Mango Melody, and Cajun Craze. Once the drops were on and spreading with the wet paper, I tipped the paper in different directions to run the ink. It was a fun process and very easy. I would recommend taping your paper down to a flat board before wetting, though. It keeps the paper from warping with the moisture.

Once the paper was dry, I cut it down to 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″, matted it with Very Vanilla, and glued it to a Mossy Meadow card base. To make the flower, I stamped one large and two medium daisies with 2nd generation Crushed Curry. Then I punched them out with their coordinating Daisy Punches. For the center, I used Early Espresso cardstock, punched a 3/4″ circle and a 1/2″ circle, pressed them in the middle with the back of my Piercing Tool, roughed up the edges and glued them together. I colored a Gold Faceted Gem with Dark Soft Suede Blends and added it to the center.

The stem and leaves are part of the Daisy Lane Stamp Set. I stamped them with Mossy Meadow onto Mossy Meadow cardstock and hand cut it out. “Smile” is also in that stamp set. It’s a very fine font though and got a bit lost on that dark background, so I beefed it up with my Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.
