Christmas Card Throwdown Challenge

What fun! Christmas cards in MAY??? Unheard of! But I found another Challenge that I was drawn to. It’s called the Christmas Card Throwdown Challenge, and this week’s challenge is to use an Embossing Technique, which I embraced fully (as you will see!) Here is the Challenge Banner.

And here is my card.

It’s Coming Back!

I’ve used the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set and Pine Tree Punch by Stampin’ Up! I am so happy to see that these two items will be in our new 2020-21 Annual Catalog! They will be available to purchase again beginning June 3. Behind each tree you will see the retired Christmas plaid paper called Wrapped in Plaid from the 2019 Holiday Catalog. I love this paper and still have a bunch of it in my stash. See a card from last season HERE.

I heat embossed each tree in the set, each with its own unique embossing powder.

Add Some Sparkle

This first tree is stamped with Shaped Spruce and Versamark on Whisper White, then heat embossed with Stardust Embossing Powder by Stampendous! This is also a stash item in my room and I’m not even sure if it’s still for sale! It is glittery goodness!

Add Some Gold

Next I have heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder onto Cherry Cobbler Cardstock and punched it out. I adore gold on cherry ~ so elegant!

Add Some Shine

This one is a little hard to see the detail. I stamped the plaid tree with Versamark onto Cherry Cobbler and heat embossed it with Clear Stampin’ Emboss powder. It gives a lovely leather look, but you have to have it just right in the light to see the plaid.        perfectly plaid stamp set, pine tree punch, wrapped in plaid dsp, gold foil sheets, heat embossing technique, christmas card throwdown challenge, stampin up, karen hallam

Add Some Texture

My fourth and last tree is Shaded Spruce Cardstock, heat embossed with a product from Hero Arts. It’s Puffy White Embossing Powder that I received in a kit from them. I love the texture!

Then to add the sentiment, I stamped Merry Christmas from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set with Versamark ink onto Shaded Spruce and heat set it with Gold embossing powder. I cut it with a die, but then trimmed it down and nipped the corners, so it doesn’t resemble the die at all anymore! 😉

Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day weekend! I hope you are reflecting on some wonderful memories of loved ones. I’m hearing stories about my late father-in-law that I’ve never heard before! It would be good to get these down in writing for the next generation before it’s long forgotten. Have a good Sunday and a great holiday!

  4. Christmas cards in May…why not, it’s been that kind of year! Love all the different embossing products that make each tree so unique. I’m also happy this set is returning as I don’t think I gave it enough love.

Love this. I am actually making Christmas cards. I am anxious to see what the holiday papers will be. I know the annual catalog just came out but I adore making holiday cards as well as fall and winter cards. I need to focus back to birthday cards though. Plaid, I was so in love with the plasmids last winter and still have more than a pack left. I am looking forward to CASEing your card. I don’t have that cool embossing powder but I could also add little beads for my own spin on it.

    • Yes! That would be beautiful! I’m looking forward to what the Christmas papers will look like too! Yikes, the Annual DSP hasn’t even arrived and now I’m already thinking about the Christmas stuff! Too funny!
