CASEing a Card

Do you “borrow” ideas from other card designers? We call that CASEing a card, and it’s a wonderful way to jumpstart your creativity. I CASEd this card idea from one I saw on Jaimie Babarczy’s blog. Hers was a fun fold and I adapted it to make a regular A2 card. I love this angled panel look for the front of the card, so I “borrowed” it to make my own!

I used paper from Perennial Lavender DSP over a Gorgeous Grape base with Basic White between the layers.

My sentiment is from Throughout The Year and I stamped it on Basic White with Gorgeous Grape and cropped it with a Something Fancy Die.

That beautiful Pool Party Crinkle Ribbon is a Sale-A-Bration item that you can earn with a $50 purchase from Stampin’ Up!

Perhaps the star of the show is the butterfly! This is one of five butterfly punch-outs from the Perennial Lavender Suite. They are called Paper Butterfly Accents, #162612, and come 8 sheets to a pack (40 butterflies). They are white and color easily. I colored mine with a Sponge Dauber and Pool Party, Fresh Freesia, and Gorgeous Grape ink pads. Then I put three Purple Fine Shimmer Gems on the body to sparkle it up a bit.

Feel free to CASE anything you see on my blog/Facebook/Instagram/or Pinterest, but if you post it online, remember the stamping courtesy is to always credit the designer from which you CASEd when you do! Lol, chances are he/she got their idea from someone else. It’s what we do! 😉

  1. I love your card Karen! I looked at Jamie’s site, but she doesn’t give the cutting instructions. Would you please share how you cut and scored your cardstock and DSP?

    • Thanks, Donna! The triangular piece on my card measures 5-1/8″ tall, 2-1/8″ wide at the bottom, and 3/4″ wide at the top. The white piece under it is 1/8″ larger on all four sides. It is glued over the 5-1/4″x 4″ white and 5-1/8″x 3-7/8″ DSP. Hope that helps!

  2. A beautiful card!!! Great idea for the layout. Thank you for sharing your creation!

  3. Oh man! What a card. I didn’t get those butterflies so maybe I need to get them as I so want to CASE your CASE! I am always looking for great cards that will mail easily. I can easily leave the gems off the butterfly if need be. My paper and gems are on the way and looking forward to playing with them.

    • Chris, I find a sequin is a great alternative when you don’t want any bumps to get in the way of mailing. They give a flat sparkle!
