Block Stamping (for CSF876)

It is now July! Every July, Create with Stamping Friends has a month-long “CASE the Catalog” challenge. Today we start off with a card posted on page 110 of our Annual Catalog. This card shows off the block stamping technique, so I gave it a try.

Here’s our challenge:

And here’s my card:

I stuck with the same color palette as the catalog sample: Pool Party, Summer Splash, and Lemon Lime Twist. I decided to use watercolor paper rather than cardstock to help prevent warping.

The technique is simple! I took a size C acrylic stamping block, pushed it into the ink pad, spritzed it with water, then stamped it down on the paper.

Once the ink dried, I cropped the watercolor paper with a Textured Notes die, measuring 4-3/4″x 3-1/4″. The Lemon Lime Twist layer measures 5″x 3/3/8″. The Summer Splash card base measures 5-1/2″x 8″, folded at 4″ (1/4″ narrower than usual).

The sentiment is from Spotlight on Nature, stamped with black ink and cropped with a Stylish Shapes Die. I adhered it with Dimensionals. The leaf sprig is from Textured Notes Stamp Set, also stamped in black.

I finished the card off with some aqua gems.

That was a fun technique! If you’ve never tried block stamping, I recommend giving it a whirl! Now let’s hop over to Create with Stamping Friends and see how the others interpreted this challenge!

  1. Thanks for this tutorial, Karen. I saw that card in the catalog and thought about trying it. It’s different than all the flowery cards I make! This will make it much easier!
