Here’s a fun exercise: Reach into your stamp cabinet without looking. Pull one out and look at it with new eyes and use it in a new and different way! I did just that with this card. Out came Beautiful Day.
I have used the butterfly image in this set many times. You can see one of those cards here. But the flower image is not something I’ve used often. I thought I would try stamping it all over the Thick Whisper White cardstock with Versamark Ink, then heat setting it with White Embossing Powder.
Once that was done, I used my Aqua Painter to paint a watercolor wash over the whole thing. The colors I used are Lovely Lipstick, Flirty Flamingo, Petal Pink, and Garden Green. I think if I were to do this again, I would use Watercolor Paper. Even though the Whisper White held together, it warped quite a bit, so I let it sit under a heavy weight overnight to flatten it out.
It was fun to play with a different medium! I can definitely see where I need to improve on my execution. But once I matted it and added a sentiment, I think it turned out OK. I’m going to do this again soon – blindly pull out another set and see where my imagination takes me. I’ll let you know!
Please share with me if you try it. I will be interested to hear what you pick and what you do with it! Have fun!
Use Up Old Scraps!
P.S. Did you notice the paper on my envelope flap? It’s a piece of DSP from awhile back called Birthday Blooms. This is one of my favorite ways to use up old DSP. I am always delightfully surprised by the color matches I can find when I flip through saved pieces of that wonderful paper!
P.P.S. A word about “No Contact”: I appreciate your orders and want to thank you with some free card tutorials, but when you select “No Contact” in your order, I don’t know who to thank! One of my favorite stamp sets. I really like the card. My to CAS list just gets longer and longer.
Great info. But what is DSP?
Kathie, it’s short for Designer Series Paper. Thanks for asking for clarification! 🙂
Great idea on picking a stamp also for the decoration on envelope. This card is lovely.
Thanks, Barb!
What a fun idea for inspiration, and what a gorgeous result! ❤️
Thank you, Linda!
I like it Karen. I’ll have to give it a try. I need to use my heat embosser more often!
Beth, it’s one of those great tools that we often forget about! Get it out and have fun!
