This week at Create With Connie & Mary we have a sketch challenge. I went into full craft mode with this one, using the Beach Day Bundle. Here’s the sketch:
And here’s my card:
Sometimes you just feel like pulling out all the stops, and I pulled quite a few with this card. No, it’s probably not one you are going to mass-produce. It has several techniques, bits, & pieces. I had so much fun putting it together!
A few things you may wonder about ~
- I textured the sand bar with Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder. I know that sounds odd, but it was easy to manipulate the strip of paper into the folder to avoid any snowflakes, and I think that it looks like sand!
- I cut and stacked 4 life preservers to give it some heft. Then I cut one from red and glued it under the top layer of white.
- On the inside, I stamped the chair and umbrella onto masking paper, cut them out and did a masking technique. First I stamped the chair on the white panel, then masked it, and stamped the umbrella to look like it was somewhat behind the chair. Then I added the umbrella mask and brushed some Daffodil Delight ink over the corner area to look like sunshine. After all that, I removed the masks and loved my scene.
Has anyone been to the Santa Monica Pier in Southern California? I took my color scheme from their lifeguard station!
The beach is my happy place. I lived in Hawaii through my high school years and adapted quite nicely to that lifestyle ❤️ Now I live about 2 hours from the Northern California coast (not the same, but beautiful nontheless) and love to drive over whenever I can. Come visit and we’ll go to the beach! ☺️
Now it’s time to go see what the other CCMC designers made with this sketch inspiration! Click HERE.
Thanks for visiting today!

This is a great way to use the sketch! Using the Snowflake Sky embossing folder really did make the piece look like sand. Good idea!
Thanks, Alicia! That embossing folder was a happy find!
