Welcome back to my week-long series for beginning stampers. Today is Day 2 and the eve of Valentine’s Day, so I thought a card with hearts would be appropriate:
This card utilizes one more of the sentiments from Sheltering Tree ~ “You warm my heart” ~ and I’ve added a second stamp set to the mix with Heart Happiness from the 2018 Occasions Catalog. Hearts are great for so much more than Valentine’s Day. I plan to use this set all year long!
When you are just starting out on stamp purchases, look for the sets that will give you the most mileage. Great sentiment stamps are always a good choice. Better Together in the Annual Catalog, page 51 is a well-rounded set. But also look for sets whose images are versatile for year-round occasions. Sheltering Tree is one of those, as I mentioned yesterday. Another good one for all seasons is Colorful Seasons in the Annual Catalog, page 147.

Note Cards & Envelopes
If you want the most bang for your buck, get some Stampin’ Up! Note Cards & Envelopes. These come 20 to a package, already cut and scored, and come in two color selections – Whisper White and Very Vanilla. They measure 5″ x 3-1/2″, perfect for smaller notes. The price is only $6 per package!
Embellish
For embellishments on this card, I picked Metallic Enamel Shapes – the gold heart – and Painted With Love Gold Vinyl Stickers. You get four sheets of these thick vinyl stickers that add shine to your card.
Layering adds color and interest to your card. Here I have layered a 4-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ piece of Real Red Cardstock onto a Whisper White Note Card, then glued a 4-5/8″ x 3-1/8″ piece of Whisper White on top of the red after adhering the Gold Vinyl Stickers to the top and bottom.
Banner
To make my sentiment stand out over the hearts a bit more, I stamped it onto a 3/4″ strip of Whisper White, flagged the right end with my scissors, and sponged around the edges of the banner with a Stampin’ Sponge and Real Red ink. I cut my sponges into eight pieces like pie wedges. When you sponge the edges, hold your cardstock perpendicular to the sponge and swipe it lightly.
I hope this has been informative and encourages you to try some new techniques! Please leave me a comment or any questions that you have below. ***(If you are visiting this post through your email, click on the title of the post to leave comments or to pin any images to Pinterest.)***
