Winter Meadow Weave (with tips!)

This week at Create with Stamping Friends, we have a sketch challenge that includes some paper weaving! I’ve opted for a Winter Meadow weave, with some of my favorite seasonal paper.

Here’s the Sketch:

And here’s my card:

The Recipe:
  • Blueberry Bushel Cardstock base, 8-1/2″ 5-1/2″, folded at 4-1/4″
  • Shaded Spruce layer, cropped with Deckled Rectangle Dies, 5″x 3-3/4″
  • Basic White Cardstock layer, cropped with Deckled Rectangle Dies, 4-3/4″x 3-3/8″
  • Winter Meadow DSP, 3 strips at 3-3/4″x 1/2″ and 3 at 2-3/4″x 1/2″
  • “Peace” from Unbounded Love Stamp Set, stamped with Misty Moonlight
  • 3 pink gems from Tinsel Gems Four Pack
Tips & Technique:

These strips are woven to match the sketch – the 3 solid blue are horizontal with about 1/8″ between them. The vertical strips are from the multi-colored foliage sheets with about 3/16″ between them. This looks fairly easy, but getting them straight and spaced correctly is a bit tricky. Here are some ideas to help with that:

  • Use a T-ruler and grid paper to help get the strips straight.
  • Start with the horizontal strips and put a tiny bit of adhesive (temporary adhesive if you have it) at the far right ends. That gives you a  little stability to weave the vertical strips between them.
  • Once you have the strips to your liking, carefully lift the open ends and add adhesive to glue them down. Be very stingy with the glue if you use liquid glue, as it will ooze out and make a mess! 😫 But liquid glue gives you a minute to straighten any crooked strips before it dries hard.
