Once upon a time I quilted – blankets, clothing, wall decor. When I taught kindergarten and first grade, I had the students create a paper quilt each month as a lesson in geometry. I loved the patterns and colors in their quilts and I hung them up in the room to show them off.
When I saw Susan Itell’s quilt card the other day, those memories came flooding back. I immediately had to go make her card, and another, and another… all different colors… and I’m going to give them to my bible study friends when we break for the summer. The first one I made, shown above, is almost an exact copy of hers. See Susan’s card here. I used Daffodil Delight instead of So Saffron and changed the sentiment because I thought a cheerful pink and yellow quilt would be just the card for a friend of mine who has come down sick.
Here are some of the rest – I went crazy! It was such a fun card to make. I would recommend mounting the squares to a 4″ x 4″ piece of cardstock that matches your predominant color. That way, if there are any uneven squares, they aren’t so conspicuous! I also backed that finished 4″ x 4″ quilt to a slightly larger (4 1/8″ square) piece of colored cardstock before mounting it to the white base. This piece barely shows, so I would cut a square out of the middle or punch out some shapes to use on another card and save paper!
